The G&L Tribute Legacy applies a vintage twist to one of Leo's favorite designs. The Tribute Legacy retains all of Leo's technical advancements from the S-500 and is powered by vintage-voiced Alnico pickups. This guitar is also loaded with G&L's PTB (Passive Treble and Bass) system. PTB functions as a two-band tone control, allowing bass and treble frequencies to be cut separately for precise tone shaping. The Legacy’s vintage-spec CLF-100 Alnico V pickups have that unmistakable chime and quack reminiscent of the best examples from the late ‘50s, thanks to the work of G&L’s Paul Gagon. Gagon found his inspiration reviewing original prints stored in Leo’s private laboratory at G&L, but that was just the start. In the early ’80s, Gagon was an R&D engineer at another company when he was tasked with finding out what was so special about the early bolt-on guitars many players raved about. Gagon analyzed many examples of what were considered holy grail guitars, spending time out on the shop floor talking to builders still working in the pickup department since the ‘50s, all on a quest to discover where the real mojo was – and wasn’t. What he learned from the builders matched his own engineering analysis. You see, back in the day, the actual spec of pickups coming down that old production line varied considerably. That meant coming up with the right specs for the Legacy pickups was more challenging than simply following the prints. Gagon’s persistence paid off as the Legacy garnered rave reviews from both players and magazines like Guitar Player and Guitar World.

Comfortable body shape and silky-smooth playability

A tone that's straight out of the ’50s
The voice of the Tribute Legacy is created by a trio of single-coil pickups. Dubbed the CLF-100, these pickups are manufactured in the USA and carry Alnico V magnets. These pickups are descended from the bright and spanky single-coils of the ’50s. The same pickups found in the USA-made models, CLF-100 pickups showcase some serious chime. Using the 5-way pickup selector switch unlocks multiple tones and even the well-loved quacking tones in positions 2 and 4. Leo's favorite creations
After founding two hugely successful guitar brands and consulting on the side, Leo Fender felt that he had unfinished business in the guitar world. Together with partner George Fullerton, G&L opened for business in 1979 and incorporated innovative design elements into their instruments, such as the Magnetic Field Design pickups, Dual-Fulcrum Vibrato, Saddle-Lock Bridge, and Bi-cut neck design.
